Who are Uranus and Gaia ?

As the world’s earliest rulers Cronus Vs Uranus , Uranus the sky god and Gaia the earth goddess were Uranus and Gaia, respectively. As a couple, they gave birth to the first Titans and are the grandparents or great-grandparents to most of the gods that we know about today.

Uranus slept with Gaia every night, covering her with his cloak. It is said that Gaia blessed him with twelve Titans, the Ekatonheires or Centimanes (beings with 100 arms), and the Cyclopes, among others. As a result, Uranus imprisoned his offspring deep within Gaia, or in Tartarus, because he loathed them and didn’t want to see them (depending on the myth).

Gaia was deeply hurt by this, so she created a massive sickle from stone. She then pleaded with her children to sterilize Uranus. No one in her family except for the youngest Titan, Cronos, seemed to wish to rise up against their father. When Gaia made him an offer, Cronos took it.

His mission was to ambush Uranus. So Cronos sliced off Uranus’ genitals and dumped them into the sea, and it was a complete success. Derived from this blood were the giants and ash tree nymphs known as Erinyes (or Furies) and Meliae. Aphrodite was born from the froth that was formed as the genitalia dropped into the sea.
