Where is Dacha Kvitko located?

Dacha Kvitko is a majestic palace perched on a hill overlooking the Black Sea in the Khosta district, Sochi, and built in an estate with an area of 13 hectares. This beautiful historical place also became a tourist resort destination. Buildings of this type during the Soviet era changed the city’s aesthetics, located in an environment of dense vegetation near the mountains and the sea.

History of Dacha Kvitko

A wealthy tsarist colonel, Andrey Valerianovich Kvitko, originally owned the palace. He is married to Vera Dmitrievna Martynova, an Italian woman from a wealthy family. Together they built this palace in 1916. Together they made this mansion in 1916. After the revolution started in In 1917, the family abandoned the castle and fled to Italy, and the government seized the property. During World War II, Dacha Kvitko was also used as a hospital where wounded soldiers were treated. In the last century, a sanatorium was built named F.E. Dzerzhinsky. But the center did not last long and became a child health center. Andrei tried to take the wealth with him as he ran. There is a local legend that some wealth was hidden in the palace. Another myth related to this well is that when it was used as a sanatorium, one of the workers’ daughters was raped and killed by its workers, and her mother could not bear the pain and hanged herself to take revenge on the criminals. It is also believed that the dead daughter, her mother, and a man in uniform roam around the palace as three ghosts. However, after 1980, the castle fell into disrepair and became home to bandits.

Is Dacha kvitko open for tourists?

Dacha Kvitko is regularly visited by tourists who want to explore curiosities. The Tornau Hotel and an art gallery can be seen near the palace, located in the middle of an estate. Also, tourists can see the spectacular views of the Maly Akhun mountain. With medieval architectural features like loopholes, small turrets, windows with arches, and spiral staircases, the palace is now glassless, roofed with cracked walls and rooms full of debris. Since 2018, local entrepreneurs have tried to renovate it for tourism, but those efforts have also failed. Therefore, Dacha Kvitko is in a dangerous condition, so be careful when visiting, and the upper floors are more complicated.

Conclusion

There is some speculation Dacha Kvitko palace in Sochi has been dilapidated for years, creating ghostly sightings. But this can be called a beautiful mansion with impressive architecture. Despite the plan to upgrade this palace to its previous condition, the process has been abandoned as it requires a considerable investment.
